Meet UDRC Treasurer Joyce Wells
My name is Joyce Wells, originally from Edinburgh, but have lived in various parts of Scotland and Australia over the years. (Too many to mention!) I started riding as a teenager and was firmly hooked from then on, riding friends horses, riding school horses and just about anything I could get my hands on.
The first horse I actually owned was "Sunny" whilst living in Australia - a sway backed, raw boned grey with a heart of gold. This spurred my on to do a Certificate in Equine Management at Western Australian Institute of Technology. The course was a three-year part time course, which included subjects varying from Horsemanship, Horsemastership, Farriery and Conformation and Action, etc. Very worthwhile and out of a class of 40 odd starters, only five of us finished and 'graduated'. Testimony to our persistence rather than any great skill.
I have owned a variety of horses since and most recently my equine efforts have been assisting (i.e. acting as an unpaid groom) to my daughter, currently away at University. Keeping "Chips" ticking over and avoiding falling off whenever possible are my main objectives currently.
I feel Riding Club offers a variety of riders good opportunities in many different disciplines and I would urge members to give as much support as possible to the Club in its endeavours to gain maximum benefit for all members.
